Turner's syndrome associated with bicuspid aortic stenosis and dissecting aortic aneurysm.

چکیده
A case of Turner's syndrome is described associated with bicuspid aortic stenosis and fatal rupture of a thoracic dissecting aortic aneurysm. Histology of the aneurysm showed severe cystic medial necrosis. This association has not been previously described in the absence of coarctation. In view of the possibility of surgical repair, dissecting aortic aneurysm should be considered in all patients with Turner's syndrome presenting with chest pain, irrespective of the presence or absence of coarctation.

CLINICOPATHOLOGIC CORRELATIONS Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm Associated with Congenital Bicuspid Aortic Valve
Among 119 cases of fatal dissecting aneurysm of the aorta, exclusive of those iatrogenically caused or associated with arachnodactyly or aortic stenosis, there were observed 11 cases of congenital bicuspid aortic valve (9%). The ages ranged from 17 to 69 years, five of the patients being 29 years old or younger. Among the latter, three had coarctation of the aorta and one had Turner's syndrome ...

متن کاملBicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...
متن کاملAcute aortic dissection following cannulation of the iliac artery.
The aorta of a patient with aortic valve stenosis may be unduly thin, fragile, and liable to dissect irrespective of the presence or absence of atheroma. Indeed, Coleman (1955) stated that aortic dissection in young people was most commonly associated with coarctation or with bicuspid aortic valve. Petch (1952) reported fatal haemopericardium from ruptured dissecting aneurysm in a man of 35 yea...
متن کاملQuadricuspid aortic valve: a rare cause of aortic regurgitation and stenosis.
Quadricuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital condition that occurs not only as an isolated anomaly, but also with other cardiac defects. We describe a 10-year-old boy whose aortic stenosis was diagnosed during infancy. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed dilation of the left ventricle, valvular and subvalvular aortic stenosis, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic regurgitation, and mitral valve ...
